Month of Love #4 – Erin (EVD)

July is my episode month.
July 9th, in fact.
And I am excited.
And I didn't get here alone.
And so, it seems only fitting, that a few of these posts have to do with the many people who played a significant role in helping me to learn, I MATTER.
And don’t get me wrong – that list is LONG.
TOO long for this blog.

However, there a few that, especially this year, this year of Extreme have really shown me that not only do I love them, but also they, in turn, love me.
Today:

Erin or EVD as she is often referred to here on the blog or in my electronic world, is a new friend.

It was January 2012.
I had just moved to Philadelphia.
And for me, the first thing on my list of city things was to find a church home.

While my relationship with God is not a big part of my episode, it’s one of the biggest parts of my life.  G-O-D and I have been close since I was a little girl.  Four years old and on.  Church group high school friends and on.  Taught Sunday School and on.

Growing up I identified as Protestant and attended a Congregational Church.

While working in Boston, I fell in love with Park Street Church and the evangelical integrated feel of the evening service.

So, I set out to find a church home in Philly.

It took one service out at Manyunk to show me that Epic Church was the place.
But Manyunk was going to be too far.

Lucky for me, they were opening their second campus about 3 blocks from my condo.  In February, I attended their first service and promptly signed on for a Life Group.

And that’s how on a cold day in February, I walked to Erin’s condo.
And met one of the BEST group of friends a gal could ask for.
I really could have made this post about Sarah, or Jessica, or Jen, too, but, the truth is, EVD and I are friends on a different level.

And that describes EVD on a real level.
She and I both believe that God gives us gifts that we need, whether we can see it or not.
Her faith is probably one of the most beautiful things about her.
And why that is may surprise you.

But, I love her faith because it’s not perfect – it’s real.
You know what I mean, EVD?

We hung out at Life Group, until I was cast on Extreme.
Then we talked, emailed, got together when I was home to Philly for the rest of the year.

And some times she was sharing her moments of awesomeness and sometimes she was sharing her struggle.

And whether she knows it or is just learning it – it is the grace that she faces her struggles with that got me through some of the tougher parts of this year.

She keeps me grounded.
She can keep me calm.
She gets just as annoyed with the production aspect of this year as I do.

What makes us laugh all the time is the beginning of my episode is sure to show me as a lonely loner.

And nothing could be further from the truth.
EVD and my Life Group friends were already building some great bonds, but story line and waivers prevent this from being the best story line.
So we’d get together and laugh about it.

EVD is one of the smartest most beautiful women I know.
EVD is one of the most spiritually real people I know.
EVD saved my life.
Kept my sanity.
Opened her home.
And her family’s home.

And all the while, there is a quiet grace about her.
Like, what she gives, how she lives, is just – normal.
And it is.

Erin is also a triathlete.
Erin trained me before I knew what training was.
Erin told me I could run before I thought I could.
Meredith came to visit us in Philly!  And Yes, I'm a Minutewoman!

We’d meet at the Rocky Steps and run them practically every day.
We’d gossip.
We’d challenge one another.
We’d grow our friendship.

And that’s EVD in a nutshell.
EVD Bestfriend.
Blessed to know her and call her my friend.
