Prep Work (Banana and Spinach Protein Shake Review)

Ahhhhhh, Sunday night, you've brought me so very much PEACE. Just getting my 'nanas ready for the day. Two protein shakes a day is 14 bananas peeled and chopped when all is said and done:). So now we prep on Sunday and freeze, makes an even better photo 305515_10100737377531402_1765962763_n.jpg
First, I know it's a Tuesday, but I wanted to spend a little time talking about prep for the week.
A big change for me over the course of the year was becoming a planner.
If you're going to eat the same thing over and over in a small variety, why not set yourself on a good course and be ready for the week.

As a teacher, it's a must.
Otherwise, I have a built in exccuse as to why I didn't eat right or snacked too much - school, kids, meetings, IEPs, principals, field trips, cleaning, staying late, going in early, etc.

I drink a lot of smoothies.

Like...
A lot.

At least two a day.

Here's my favorite:

Banana and Spinach Protein Shake:
  • 1 scoop whey Protein Powder (two if you're a dude) - SFH is my fav.
  • 1 cup unsweetended vanilla flavoried almond milk (from Trader Joe's)
  • 1/2 a sliced, frozen banana
  • 3-4 cups of fresh (better fresh than frozen spinach)
Mix in a blender - add a packet or two of stevia and cinnamon to mix things up a bit.

Enjoy.

Today, I made a whey protein shake and turned it into my own version of the Green Lantern shake! 3-4 handfuls of spinach - mix and blend well. I promise you 100% you won't taste the spinach, but will get all the nutrients from that veggie :). Yumm photo 478516_10100653447522812_1875050522_o.jpg

Back on Sunday night, I take a bunch of bananas, slice them up, throw them in a ziplock freezer bag and freeze them.

Take out a bag at a time as needed and enjoy!

A little bit of planning goes a long way.

  1. doesn't whey protein make you gain weight in large quantities. I was using one from GNC and someone told me it was for guys in large quantities. I gained 7lbs in 2 days so I backed off it

    1. I'm absolutely no expert, but in my experience with this amount of protein powder - I have not gained weight. With the amount that I'm working out and weight training (to build muscle), a scoop of protein powder in each of my two shakes hasn't resulted in gains. Now, there are powders you can buy that are specific to muscle building and weight gain. Obviously if you use more scoops, results could vary.

  2. I just did this today..... I cut up all my bananas and put them in the freezer in individual bags so I can just pull one bag a day as needed... This drink is awesome... I'm a peanut butter person so instead of protein powder I put PB2 or almond butter....

    1. Brilliant. Doesn't it feel so good to know you have the healthy option all set to go in your freezer? PB2. YUM!

  3. I agree! That's one of the things that I have done as well to be able to lose weight... plan! It's key! Nothing should ever "surprise me" I try to be ready for the "unexpected" I plan for the unplanned! LOL! I have studied menus of restaurants as well, that way when I eat out because something happens or because friends invite us I don't have to say "I can't" and at the same time I don't have to "think too much" about what I am going to eat and/or make it too obvious for everyone to say "she's on a diet" I eat great and nobody feels "sorry for me" LOL! :) Great job Jami! Thanks for sharing! I'll be trying that smoothie soon! Sounds yummy!
